Over eight years ago, I started working as a sales associate at my great uncle's small furniture store in Canada. I quickly realized two things — I loved sales, and I was fascinated by the psychology behind why people buy.

At the time, our store was in a small 5,000 square foot space, located right next to a large chain store competitor. Our entire marketing strategy was built around hoping customers would visit them first — and then walk over to us. It kept the lights on, but it wasn't driving any real growth.

We eventually tried traditional advertising — like flyers and radio — but the results were painfully underwhelming. I knew there had to be a better way. After spending hours scouring YouTube for marketing strategies, I became convinced that we needed to try Facebook ads.

We started small, allocating just 20% of our ad budget to Facebook, while still keeping 80% in radio. It didn’t take long to notice something — almost no customers were mentioning the radio ads, but a disproportionate amount were referencing our Facebook ads. So we made a bold move — we flipped our budget, spending 80% on Facebook and only 20% on radio. The results were overwhelming. Sales exploded.

Eventually, it became clear that radio was dead for us — so I fired our radio rep (something I don’t think he’s ever forgiven me for) — and we went all in on Facebook ads. We scaled our budget and watched as our revenue scaled right along with it.

To this day, the majority of customers at Canvas + Loft Furniture say they found us through Facebook or Instagram ads. The business grew from a small, local store into a multi-million-dollar operation — and it was entirely driven by our Meta ad strategy.

But what I learned along the way is that my true passion isn't just business — it's marketing and consumer psychology. I love understanding why people buy and how to capture their attention.
